The new Vergelegen Trail offers a captivating full-day guided 13km hike across the estate, including an exclusive journey through the game camp. Guests will have the unique opportunity to explore the farm’s rich history, discover its diverse flora and fauna, and enjoy breathtaking panoramic vistas. This immersive experience grants access to hidden gems of the property that are typically closed to the public, making it a must-do for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike.

VERGELEGEN TRAIL

The specially selected route traverses the farm and includes a visit to:


  • The Manor House and Gardens: The route starts in the historic precinct of Vergelegen to admire the gardens.
  • The Lourens River and Orchards: From the gardens, the trail leads to the Lourens River, then passing through the orchards.
  • The Nguni Cattle Grazing Areas: The route continues into the grazing areas for the Nguni cattle and our resident antelope species.
  • Our Renosterveld and Alien Plant Recovery Areas: As the trail enters the natural vegetation, it transitions into Renosterveld areas that are still recovering from alien plant removal. Here guests can learn about the conservation efforts and see the results.
  • Fynbos and Wetlands: The hike progresses through lush fynbos and wetland areas, where guests can learn more about the region’s precious fynbos.
  • The Game Camp: The route then takes guests alongside the game camp, offering the chance to observe the wildlife.
  • The Vineyards and Wine Cellar: Finally, the trail ascends to the vineyards and concludes at the wine cellar, providing a fitting end to the hike.

  • This is a full-day guided experience – A 13km hike through the estate’s most scenic and historic areas offering exclusive access to parts of the property not usually open to the public.
  • Only 8 people per tour can be accommodated to ensure an immersive experience.

Please note

  • The Vergelegen Trail is 13kms long and requires a certain level of fitness to participate (there will be at least 4 hours of walking).
  • The terrain is mostly jeep tracks with some rough gravel and inclines. Appropriate footwear must be worn.
  • The tour is weather permitting and guests will be notified should dates change due to increment weather.
  • We only take 8 people per tour to ensure an immersive experience.
