In identifying the winner of the ‘Essence of Vergelegen’ competition, we will evaluate all entries fairly and according to consistent criteria
The judges’ decision is final.
The judging criteria are:
An image that makes readers inspired by the experience and want to visit Vergelegen.
An image that best represents what Vergelegen stands for – the essence of Vergelegen!
Only black and white photographs will be accepted.
Each entry must
Relate to Vergelegen, and be taken on the grounds of the estate (public areas only).Be submitted as an image, with a story as the caption. The image itself, as well as the story, will be judged. No images taken before 1st April 2026 or after 31 May 2026 will be accepted.
Only two entries per person allowed.
The entries will be judged after the competition closes on 31 May 2026 and the winners announced in June at the awards function (date TBC).
There will be 1 main prize winner from each class and 2 runner-up winners each from the Camera and Smart Phone classes. There are 3 prizes for the junior class. The ‘People’s Choice’ award will be chosen based on votes by the guests at the awards function.
The top 10 finalists from the Camera and Smart Phone classes will be invited to attend the awards function.
The 3 finalists from the junior class will be invited to attend the award function. Minors to be accompanied by an adult.
If a finalist cannot attend the awards function, they may send a representative on their behalf.
All entrants confirm that the images are their own work. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.
The top 10 pictures and final winners agree to have their images displayed on the estate and also used on social media, in print communication and the Vergelegen digital channels.
All finalist images will be displayed at the farm for the month of June at the annual Vergelegen photography exhibition
The image owner will always be credited when Vergelegen uses the image where appropriate.
Copyright: Any photographs entered may be shared on the Vergelegen communication channels (including social media/ newsletter/ website or other). Where possible, the photographer will be credited and tagged.
By entering this competition, Vergelegen reserves the right to use the images entered in a non-commercial manner. Any further use that is commercial in nature will be agreed in writing with the photographer.
All pictures entered into the junior category must be taken by someone under the age of 16.
Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.
The competition is free to enter.
Each entrant must enter at least 1 image and up to a maximum of 2 images.
Only areas open to the public on Vergelegen Estate can be explored to take images.
Management reserves the right to entry to the estate.
Competition not open to any employees of Vergelegen Wine Estate.
