“Sustainability lives at the very heart of our strategy, not as an adjacent activity, but embedded in how we do our work”
Mark Cutifani, former CEO at Anglo American plc
Vergelegen
We will treat our land with respect, we will care for our people and community, we will tirelessly preserve this special place for future generations. Together we will play our part in driving meaningful change in how we do business, those with whom we do business and everyone we engage with.
Here at Vergelegen, we are a proud supporter of Fairtrade. Fairtrade changes the way trade works through better prices, decent working conditions and a fairer deal for farmers and workers in developing countries. Furthermore, Fairtrade supports and challenges businesses and governments while connecting farmers and workers with the people who buy their products. By buying Fairtrade wines, consumers can make a real difference to someone’s life.
Our efforts in combatting climate change go far beyond the ordinary. We are actively reducing our carbon emissions, searching for renewable ways to enhance our power supply, reducing our energy consumption wherever possible, and reusing, repurposing and recycling everything we can. We know that farming in a sustainable way and preserving all that we have for future generations is the only way forward.
Vergelegen is committed to conserving the land for future generations. We have pledged that over 2000 hectares of our farm will remain free from agricultural activity. Always. In 2019 the property was declared a Western Cape provincial heritage site. We are also proud WWF Conservation Champions.
We treat people with care and respect. We are committed to our people and communities and their development, and we value their diverse and unique contributions. We are focused on maintaining a work environment where our employees can develop and thrive and work with our communities to create mutually beneficial relationships.
We have a responsibility to act in the best interest of our environment and society as a whole and lessening the negative impacts on them.
