DESCRIPTION:The new Vergelegen Trail offers a captivating full-day guided 13km hike across the estate. Guests will have the unique opportunity to explore the farm’s rich history\, discover its diverse flora and fauna\, and enjoy breathtaking panoramic vistas. This immersive experience grants access to hidden gems of the property that are typically closed to the public\, making it a must-do for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike. The specially selected route traverses the farm and includes a visit to: \nThe Manor House and Gardens: The route starts in the historic precinct of Vergelegen to admire the gardens. \nThe Lourens River and Orchards: From the gardens\, the trail leads to the Lourens River\, then passing through the orchards. \nThe Nguni Cattle Grazing Areas: The route continues into the grazing areas for the Nguni cattle and our resident antelope species. \nOur Renosterveld and Alien Plant Recovery Areas: As the trail enters the natural vegetation\, it transitions into Renosterveld areas that are still recovering from alien plant removal. Here guests can learn about the conservation efforts and see the results. \nFynbos and Wetlands: The hike progresses through lush fynbos and wetland areas\, where guests can learn more about the region’s precious fynbos. \nThe Game Camp: The route then takes guests past the game camp\, offering the chance to observe the wildlife. \nThe Vineyards: Finally\, the trail ascends towards a secret location\, providing a fitting end to the hike. Guests will then be transported via a drive past the cellar and vineyards\, and back to Stables for lunch. \n  \nTour Highlights \nThis is a full-day guided experience – A 13km hike through the estate’s most scenic and historic areas offering exclusive access to parts of the property not usually open to the public. \nOnly 8 people per tour can be accommodated to ensure an immersive experience. \nRich biodiversity – Discover unique flora and fauna of the Cape’s fynbos biome and learn from our experienced guide\, Frank Dwyer. \nHistorical insights – Learn about Vergelegen’s 300-year-old heritage\, including its iconic trees and historic sites. \nBreathtaking vistas – Enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the Helderberg Mountains and surrounding landscapes. \nThe trail price includes the expertly guided hike\, trail snacks\, a 3-course lunch with wine at Stables Restaurant\, an exclusive wine tasting experience and a bottle of wine to take home. \nPlease note \n\nThe Vergelegen Trail is 13kms long and requires a certain level of fitness to participate (at least 4 hours of walking).\nThe terrain is mostly jeep tracks with some rough gravel\, steep inclines and steep declines. The trail takes guests about 360m above sea level and is somewhat challenging.\nAppropriate footwear must be worn.\nThe tour is weather permitting and guests will be notified should dates change due to increment weather.\nWe only take 8 people per tour to ensure an immersive experience.\n\nCOST: R2900 pp \nDATES: 1 November 2025 \nDURATION: 08h00 – 16h00 \nCAPACITY: 8 pax

DESCRIPTION:Come and enjoy stunning flowers and scones at Vergelegen on Friday\, 24 October and Saturday\, 1 November. Starting at 9h30 with a general get to know the lie of the land and history tour. Penny Saunders leads this – she has worked her for 33 years and has great stories! \nAfter tea and scones in the Rose Garden’s private studio\, our garden tour is led by estate’s head horticulturists Richard Arm and Chris Randlehoff\, responsible for plant propagation\, cut flowers\, the fruit and vegetable gardens. We finish at 13h00. \n09h30 – 10h45 tour by Penny Saunders including history and homestead\n10h45 – 11h30 tea and scones at Café Fleur Studio\n11h30 – 12h45 garden tour by Richard and Chris\n13h00 end so time for questions\, looking round by yourself etc \nCost paying at least 10 days in advance R450\, then R650 each.
